Natalie Spurrell was born into a musical family and has been performing for as long as
she can remember. A proud Newfoundlander, she grew up surrounded by the rich
musical traditions of the province—an influence that continues to guide and inspire her
work today.
Natalie holds a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education from Memorial
University of Newfoundland, as well as a Master of Music Education from Boston
University. She is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing,
a founding member of the Oakville Vocal Arts Festival, and currently serves on the
Board of Directors of the Peel Music Festival—one of Canada’s largest independent
music festivals.
Natalie operates a thriving full-time private voice studio in Oakville, specializing in
crossover vocal training. Guided by her vision to create a safe, supportive environment
where young singers can explore, discover, and thrive, she has cultivated a vibrant
community of artists who inspire and uplift one another throughout their years at the
Spurrell Singing Studio.
The Spurrell Studio Choir—comprised of select singers from her private studio—has
received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Elmer Isler Award for the best
performance of an original composition by a Canadian composer at the International
Choral Kathaumixw. Natalie’s students have gone on to establish successful careers as
recording artists and have appeared in film, television, and stage productions across
North America and Europe. Most recently, one of her studio graduates was cast as
“Margaret” and as the understudy for “Juliet” in Mirvish’s production of & Juliet, now
running at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.
Natalie is delighted to return to her home province and looks forward to being inspired
once again by the next generation of talented performers in Newfoundland and
Labrador.
