Class Registration - Strings

For all String Concert Group Classes: Only competitors performing from memory may be recommended to proceed to the Rose Bowl competition.  All competitors will receive an adjudication and a mark, provided all other requirements are met.

Own Choice of Three Selections 

Performance will be judged on discrimination of selection, which should be from standard concert or suitable instrument-specific literature, on group arrangement, contrast, appropriateness, keys, technique, interpretation, and stage presence. 

• Abuse of the time limit will not be tolerated.  Competitors abusing the time limit will be adjudicated only, with no mark
• Selections must be performed as a set, one following the other without interruption
• Competitors must not perform any selection entered in any other class in the current festival

Own selection of a Complete Major Work for any String Instrument

Time Minimum: 10 Minutes

• Must be a work of more than one movement (e.g. complete sonata, suite, or similar large-scale work)
• Competitors must not perform any part of their selection in any other class in the current festival

Own Choice of One selection for any String Instrument

• Selection must be from the indicated grade level or above in either the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada syllabus.

Own Choice of One Selection for String Duet

Own Choice of Two Contrasting Selections for Fiddle
Time Limit: 4 minutes

Own Choice of One selection by a Canadian Composer

Selection must be in classical style, not a folk or pop song, unless specifically arranged for string solo

Own Choice of Two Contrasting selections

Group Rose Bowl and Provincial/National recommendations may be made. Competitors for this award will be selected and recommended by the adjudicators. A mark of 85 or higher, and a first-place finish must be obtained in the competitive session from which the recommendation comes in order to be considered for this award.

Own Choice of Two Contrasting Selections for any String Instrument

This class is for string players who would like to receive written adjudication on their performance but cannot attend in person. Instrumentalists will submit a recorded performance through the Ciniki platform. Marks will not be awarded, and this class is
not eligible for awards.
