Concert Group (Any Brass Instrument)

Own choice of three selections

Performance will be judged on discrimination of selection which should be from standard concert or suitable instrument-specific literature, on group arrangement, contrast, appropriateness, keys, technique, interpretation, and stage presence. Competitors must not include in this class any selection from another class in which they are entered in the current festival.

- Performance from memory is not mandatory for brass concert groups
- Selections must be performed as a set, one following the other without interruption
- Penalty for abuse of time limit
- Competitors must not perform any selection entered in any other class in the current festival
- Selections and performance time should be specified at registration

Time Limit: 25 minutes

Own choice of any concerto, sonata, suite, or other multi-movement work in its entirety, or other extended single-movement work from standard or suitable instrument-specific repertoire.

Concerto (Any Brass Instrument)

Own choice of one movement from a brass concerto.

- The orchestral reduction may be performed by a professional musician if desired
- Only the brass solo part will be adjudicated (not the orchestral reduction)

Brass Solo (Any Brass Instrument)

Own choice of one selection at the indicated grade level or above.
The leveled solo brass classes of the Festival correspond roughly to the level of difficulty of the repertoire as indicated in the chart below. Students are required to perform music from the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada syllabi only.

Level 6: University level, ARCT (RCM) or Level 10 (CC)
Level 5: 5- 6 years of playing experience or Level 8-9 (RCM/CC)
Level 4: 4- 5 years of playing experience or Level 6-7 (RCM/CC)
Level 3: 3- 4 years of playing experience or Level 4-5 (RCM/CC)
Level 2: 2- 3 years of playing experience or Level 2-3 (RCM/CC)
Level 1: up to 2 years of playing experience or Preparatory or Level 1 (RCM/CC)

- Competitors may participate in both classes offered at one designated level only.
- Selection, instrument, and performance time should be specified at registration.

Virtual

Own choice of two contrasting selections.

This class is for brass players who would like to receive written adjudication on their performance but cannot attend in person. Instrumentalists will submit a recorded performance through the Ciniki platform. Marks will not be awarded and this class is not eligible for awards.
