For all Brass Classes: Participants must specify their instrument, repertoire selection and performance time upon registration. If any changes to repertoire are made after the registration deadline, participants will receive an adjudication but no mark. Participants must supply original music for the adjudicator.
For all Brass Concert Group Classes: performing from memory is encouraged, but not required, to proceed to the Rose Bowl Competition. All competitors will receive an adjudication and a mark, provided all other requirements are met.
Own Choice of Three Selections
Performance will be judged on discrimination of selection, which should be from standard concert or suitable instrument-specific literature, on group arrangement, contrast, appropriateness, keys, technique, interpretation, and stage presence.

Own Choice of One Complete Major Work
Time Minimum: 10 Minutes
Must feature a concerto, sonata, suite, or other multi-movement work in its entirety, or other extended single-movement work from standard or suitable instrument-specific repertoire.

The levelled classes of the Festival correspond roughly to the level of difficulty of repertoire as indicated in the chart below. Students are required to perform a selection at the grade level indicated or above, including music from the RCM or Conservatory Canada syllabi only.
Competitors may participate in both classes offered at one designated level only.

Own Choice of One selection by a Canadian Composer
Selection must be in classical style, not a folk or pop song unless specifically arranged for brass solo. Must supply original music to the adjudicator.
Own Choice of Two Contrasting Selections
This class is for brass players who would like to receive written adjudication on their performance but are unable to attend in person. Instrumentalists will submit a recorded performance through the Ciniki platform. Marks will not be awarded, and this class is not eligible for awards.
